1-15-2011 THE SUPPLIES TO CREATE "BLING" ENGINES & CARS

ok, so i have an engine ive BLINGED out, and 1 car i have BLINGED out in RED, and i really want to be able to do each color in the rainbow, as well as do specialty holiday cars, like: VALENTINES DAY with red, pink, and clear stones, either on 1 car each, or all on one car, with HEARTS on the cars as well.

THAT idea requires SUPPLIES.

i really have a wonderful husband, who lets my creatice side flourish (as long as there is cash flow, lol).
when i told him i needed supplies (ready for when we got the box cars) we went right out and got some stuff.

heres what i came out with:

ENJOY!

1-10-2011 THE MAKING OF A RED 'BLINGY' MODEL TRAIN CAR

so, i made the engine, and needed some cars to go along with it.

theres a story to set up how i got this GREEN box car.

we have an annual Christmas party for our train club. and its a common thing for each person whos interested in playing DIRTY SANTA (and  no, its not THAT kind of 'Dirty") Game, to bring a gift to exchange.
rules go something like this: 1st 5 players pic a gift thats not theirs from under the tree, and can opt to swap out with anyone of the next person or, wait to pick the gift they want till the end. if they havnt had 3 turns on one item. after one item has exchanged hands 3 times it is officially owned.

anyway, i got my chance to go under the tree, picked out a gift, and opened it up, and it was scenic trees. man! i liked those, so it became a running joke that everyone would come and tease me about getting them, but then would go get the thing they wanted more...just to make fun of he fact i REALLY liked MY gift. it wasnt a dud to me. i had plans.
you read that right, i HAD plans.

well, par the rules, one of the people who was one of the 1st 5, took my trees, and handed me his ugly green box car. i was nearly in tears.
looked at that thing, and was thinking what in the world would i do with THAT?!?!?!
mostly feeling hurt that those trees i really liked got taken from me.
im not lying when i think you could have heard a pin drop...my face, im sure said it all for the room.
i was CRUSHED.
and here i was, sitting there, with this ugly green box car and no idea what i was ever gong to do with it.

i had purchased the engine just a few weeks before, and already had the idea to "bling" it up. i hadnt officially started it yet, byt the club christmas party, but i had the idea set indie me, to do it.

so, after i gathered my injured and crushed pride, and my husband came over to me to console my grief...i decided id make this the 1st BLING box car!
when life hand you lemons you make a BLING BOX CAR!

so, i started work on her at the start of the year. by the 10th of january, i was finished. and...quite proud of what i had accomplished. i think she came out BEAUTIFULLY!

heres the pics as i worked on her..start to finish:

inside-this is some heavy plastic coated in some gold and crystal stuff, very weighty. im hoping this works when the engine has too pull it, because its quite heavy.

1-8-2011 MY "BLING" N SCALE ENGINE HAS HER 1ST RUN AT THE MALL

im not gonna lie, im pretty proud of MY BLINGED OUT N SCALE engine. i did her up specifically, just to see IF shed draw any kind of attention...at all. or, if people would make rude dispareging comments about her, period.

and true to the human nature of humanity itself, she drew more attention and OOOOS and AHHHHHS, from BOTH sexes, i knew i had something!
ya see, she appeals to females, and girls, and anyone who likes...sparkly stuff. cause shes COVERED in flat backed plastic metalic backed gems.

multi colored.
for a reason, because it would cost me a near fortune to try to do an engine up in every color there is out there...
i just decided to cover her, the best way i could with every size and color i had on hand for this idea.

the mall wasnt her 1st run....this was actually her second. her 1st was at a Christmas Show we did here in Edmond, Oklahoma. and let me just say...she stopped traffic IN the building we were in while she commanded the rail...lol

so, i finally have an N Scale engine to go along with my specialty and yellow cars, and craig was so kind to pull out allot of the yellow cars to ride behind her, so not only was she sparkly..she was bright too! lol

these images arnt the best...i found i CANT use macro AND STOP MOTION at the same time on my camera...so, some (if not all) are blurry. but you get an idea, anyway.

im not sure sure id want to try to bling my other scales (Z and T) as they get so much smaller and the gems become harder to handle the tinier thay are....bigger, like HO would be better...but i havnt decided if i want to go larger yet. i do believe the canvase for specific art in relation to gem placemnt would be easier and more pronounced if i didthem in larger scale...but for now, N is as good as its gonna get.
i need dummy engines to work engines in single colors, for holiday sets...

anyway, heres the pics, ENJOY!
